DONATION FROM DARLEY LODGE 6531

We are very grateful to Darley Lodge Freemasons, Farnworth for their recent donations totalling £350.
The photograph shows our Secretary, Brenda, accepting a cheque from the Worshipful Master of the Lodge.

Bolton and Farnworth Freemasons - Gift Evening:
This was held at the Masonic Hall in Bolton and was attended by around 180 charity and voluntary group representatives, freemasons and friends. A total of over £20,000 was distributed to around thirty local organisations including Birtenshaw Hall Children's Charity, Derian House and Bolton Hospice.

GIFT EVENING - 29th April 2008
Presentation of Masonic Funds to Charitable Organisations.

David and Brian attended the above event held at the Masonic Hall, Bolton on 29th April to receive a donation of £1,300 from the East Lancashire Masonic Charity's Community Fund. The money is to be used to purchase a replacement defibrillator for our meeting place.

David gave a resumé of how our Group was formed, our current activities and what we had done within the borough of Bolton including our contribution to the Royal Bolton Hospital's Coronary Care Appeal. He also outlined how committee members had recently been involved with a project at a local high school and their attendance at meetings of national organisations such as the British Heart Foundation. He explained that the existing defibrillator needed replacing by a newer model and that it is intended that training be given to members of the group and others in how to use the defibrillator if it is ever required.

Brian said that he had been involved with the Group since its year of formation (1990) and gave the opinion that cardiac support was more about helping people to get back to normal rather than helping people who are ill. He said, however, that sudden cardiac arrest can happen to those who are unaware of a heart problem and that as the defibrillator will be kept at our meeting place it would be available for others who use the premises.

David and Brian thanked the stewards of the Masonic Charity for including the Bolton Cardiac Support Group amongst the many organisations within the area that have benefited from the Community Fund.

Footnote: The Masonic Province of East Lancashire has donated in excess of £100,000 to local organisations over the past eighteen months.

Our Chairman, Anne, has used her 70th birthday celebration to raise money for the Group. Over a hundred family and friends attended the event, held at Bolton Old Links Golf Club and were asked to make a voluntary donation in lieu of a gift.
Brenda (Secretary) and Brian (Treasurer) accepted a cheque for £1,360 on behalf of our Group. This was reported in The Bolton News (5th June) where Anne said "I want to do all I can to raise awareness and support for this group. It is entirely voluntary and we need to raise £6,000 every year to fund our activities."

GOLF CAPTAIN'S CHARITY
On 18th March Anne and I were invited to Bolton Old Links Golf Club to collect a cheque in the sum of £600 which the 2008 Captain-Mr Bob Mansfield, had raised during his year of office. He informed us that monies were raised through social events and raffles and the last event was a Karaoke evening, enjoyed by all. We are very grateful to The Captain and stressed that the money will be spent very wisely.
Brenda.

ST JAMES'S SCHOOL CHARITY DONATION
Do you remember the work that the Students at St James's Church of England School and Sports College did for us to design our new logo? - well the bonding between our Group and the School continues -
In February the School newsletter was given the theme of Valentines Day. The Students passed on their little "love notes", did a superb article called "Healthy Hearticle" (maybe we did make an impression when we did the presentation to them about healthy eating, etc.) and many more little anecdotes. The teacher rang me up and said that the Students, in keeping with the Heart for Valentines Day, would like to donate all the proceeds made from selling this magazine to our Group. Of course I passed on thanks and delight that they had thought about us. On Saturday I received a cheque in the sum of £75. Isn't it great that these kind, hard working youngsters thought about us! We are very grateful.
GIFT FROM WESTHOUGHTON ROTARY
On Thursday 13th March I was invited to receive a cheque for our Group for the sum of £125 from Westhoughton Rotary. During the evening twenty charities were presented with various amounts. Each year the Rotarians decide which charity to give to and we have been very fortunate in that they have selected us for the past 4 years.
In my resume I thanked them most sincerely and guaranteed them that the money would be well spent.
BOLTON & DISTRICT GOLFERS CHARITY
On Tues 1st April the Bolton & District Golfers Charity Tournament Chairman-Mr Hughie Hunter and the Lady President-Mrs Carol Higgins presented The Bolton Cardiac Support Group with a cheque for £650. We are most grateful to the Golf Cot for awarding and supporting our Group with this money which is raised by all golfers in the Bolton District during the year.
