COMMITTEE NEWS! |
Meeting on 16th June 2010 - AGM + Presentation to retiring Chairman, Anne Kaneen:
Anne had previously announced that she intended to retire from her position as Chairman at the AGM. After forming the Bolton Cardiac Support Group in 1990, whilst working as Cardiac Rehabilitation Sister, she was the committee's advisory member until her retirement from work in 1999 when she took over as Chairman. In her address she explained how she now feels it is time to hand over the reins and expressed her thanks to all members for their support over the years.
Our Secretary, Brenda Brooks, continued the meeting and announced that committee member, David Houghton, had put his name forward to take over the position of chairman. He was duly elected. Brenda and Alan Parker were then re-elected to the positions of Secretary and Treasurer. Other committee members - Brian Birchall, Anne Hart and Robert Latham were re-elected together with two new trustees - Margaret Hey and Margaret Parker (formerly co-opted members of the committee).
There followed a presentation to Anne and short addresses by Dr. Scott, our President and Norman Prince, our Patron.

MONDAY CLASS!
At its committee meeting on Wednesday 7th April it was decided to end the weekly Monday classes. This decision was not taken lightly as the classes, which were originally fortnightly yoga, have been running since the Group was formed in 1990.
In those early years the provision of continued rehabilitation for ex-patients was limited. Now, patients who leave the hospital after physiotherapy can continue with three months cardiac rehab. training at local leisure centres. Another factor influencing our decision is that funds have diminished in spite of the tremendous effort and support from local people at social and fundraising events. This is mainly due to the reduction in grants from local providors and the increased competition for grant funds within the Borough.
The committee would like to thank Alan and John (tai chi teacher and cardiac rehabilitation trainer) for their input over the last few years and also those members who have supported the classes.
BB. The Bolton Cardiac Support Group (BCSG) meets every month to offer friendship and support to people who are experiencing or recovering from some form of coronary (heart) illness such as angina, heart attack, heart surgery or ischaemic heart disease. (The welcome also extends to their "carer" - spouce, partner, family member or friend).
Our monthly meetings cover subjects such as diet, medication, exercise and more. Each month we have a speaker (cardiologist, doctor, pharmacist, cardiac rehabilitation specialist, etc.) who gives a brief presentation which is then followed by a question and answer period. We also occasionally have some non-medical topics and social meetings.
So, if you think the BCSG might be of help to you, then why not come along and join us. You have nothing to lose but perhaps a lot to gain!
